School Fundraising Mugs:
Fostering the Relationship Between Art and Charity
The relationship between art and charity is a long and fruitful one; over the centuries, many high-profile artists, photographers, and writers have used their talents to lend a voice to marginalized peoples who might otherwise not have had one. Events such as art shows are often given in the name of charity, wooing the wealthy to invest in art pieces for the sake of the disadvantaged.
Today in the UK, items like school fundraising mugs are providing a method by which young people can begin to make this vital connection; relatively inexpensive and almost infinitely customizable, these mugs can be used to raise money to counteract a wide variety of social ills which are becoming more prevalent in the UK. Indeed, the arts themselves are suffering from drastic funding cuts, putting the responsibility for generating both an interest in the arts and the revenue necessary to invest in them ever more in the hands of parents.
Homelessness, too, is on the rise in the UK, after dipping to an all-time low in the year 2010; 2,414 people slept rough in England at least one night of the year during 2013, representing a 37 per cent rise since 2010. In London, the rates have risen by 62 per cent. Many of those forced to sleep on the streets are youths. Charities such as Crisis and Shelter are more than happy to work with schools, and many already have fundraising and lesson plans in place to make schoolchildren aware of the issue of homelessness and what they can do about it.
When one truly begins to think about it, the possibilities for enhancing social awareness and benefiting those in need via school fundraising mugs seem limited only by the imagination: Children can be involved in helping to end hunger in the UK and abroad, in helping to rescue abused animals, in helping to protect the environment, and so much more.
Like the range of causes that schoolchildren can become involved in, the possibilities for the mugs themselves are extensive, and sure to delight creative young minds. To truly get children thinking about the cause for which they are raising funds, one can have the youngsters draw pictures or write short poems that illustrate their feelings about the issue, thereby encouraging them to personally relate to it. Mugs can also be adorned with photographs or inspirational quotes; more or less anything that one can print on paper, one can print on a blank school fundraising mug.
School Fundraising Mugs – A Wonderful Gift
And of course, personalized mugs make wonderful gift ideas for a young person. The result of giving such a gift is a valuable investment in any young artist’s confidence; every child’s self esteem shines a little brighter, after all, when he or she sees a parent or relative drinking out of a mug adorned with his or her creation.
